The New York Yankees (59-45) extended their win streak to three games with a 3-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies (56-49) on Saturday at Citizens Bank Park. Austin Wells and Jasson Domínguez each homered, while Ryan Weathers turned in a strong bounce-back performance as the Yankees secured the series victory and continued their road success with a sixth straight win away from home.
Philadelphia struck first in the opening inning when Bryce Harper lifted a sacrifice fly to score Trea Turner, but Weathers settled in from there. The left-hander allowed just one run on six hits while striking out seven over 5.2 innings to earn his fourth win of the season. The Yankees’ bullpen handled the rest, keeping the Phillies off the scoreboard before David Bednar retired the side in order in the ninth for his 20th save.
Wells erased the early deficit with a solo home run to the opposite field in the third inning. New York grabbed the lead in the sixth after a defensive miscue by the Phillies extended the inning. Paul Goldschmidt’s pop-up dropped between shortstop Trea Turner and left fielder Edmundo Sosa, allowing Cody Bellinger to follow with a go-ahead RBI single. Domínguez added valuable insurance with a solo homer later in the game as the Yankees improved to an American League-best 33-22 on the road. Bellinger finished 3-for-4 with a double, single, and RBI to pace the offense.
The Yankees wrap up their three-game series against the Phillies on Sunday night, with first pitch scheduled for 7:10 p.m. Will Warren (7-4, 4.00 ERA) is expected to start for New York against Phillies left-hander Cristopher Sánchez (12-4, 2.71 ERA).
