NYSEG has installed a new transformer at its Meyer Substation in Dansville, doubling the facility's previous capacity, according to the Hornell Tribune. The work is part of a multi-phase rebuild meant to modernize the substation and strengthen the local power grid.
The first phase is expected to improve service for about 6,740 customers in Dansville and nearby communities once it is completed this fall.
The Meyer Substation was built in 1948 and serves as a major hub in NYSEG's transmission and distribution system.
Crews also added new breakers and support equipment intended to reduce outage risks and improve reliability.
NYSEG plans to begin a second phase by the end of the year, with two more transformers and additional equipment expected by 2029.
