Ontario County Sheriff’s Marine Unit, Cheshire Fire and Canandaigua Fire Department Crews searched the general area on Canandaigua Lake where Mr. Colacino was last seen at the surface, last night until after 10:30 PM. The Sheriff’s Office also deployed a drone to search the area from the air.
This morning at 5:00 AM the Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit equipped with side scan sonar technology deployed and around 6:00 AM sonar operators located what they believed to be the victim.
The Ontario County Underwater Search and Rescue Team deployed from Deep Run Park in the Town of Gorham. This was with the assistance from the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit and the Cheshire Fire Department.
The victim was recovered approximately 125 yards from the eastern shore in about 20’ of water. The victim was removed by vessel to Deep Run Park where Ontario County Coroner Thomas Cheney was met and will be assisting in the investigation.
The victim has been sent for an autopsy which will be conducted at Geneva General Hospital. The preliminary investigation reveals evidence consistent with drowning.
The Ontario County Office of Emergency Management, Canandaigua Fire and Ambulance, along with Cheshire Fire Department all assisted at the scene. The New York State Police also assisted on scene.
Authorities plan to resume searching Monday morning for a 51-year-old Canandaigua man who disappeared while swimming in Canandaigua Lake on Sunday night.
Patrick J. Colacino jumped from a boat to swim near 4108 State Route 364 at about 8:41 p.m., according to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office. Other passengers saw him swimming but lost sight of him after about five minutes.
Multiple boats equipped with sonar searched the area, and authorities also deployed a drone. Colacino had not been located when the sheriff’s office issued its release late Sunday.
The sheriff’s office said search efforts would continue until Colacino is found. Cheshire Fire and New York State Police assisted with the response.
