Kia Telluride Recall expands nationwide in the U.S. with almost 463,000 SUVs affected due to a potential fire risk associated with the front power seat motor. Kia America and federal safety regulators are telling owners of certain Telluride models from 2020 to 2024 to park their vehicles outdoors and away from buildings until a new repair can be made. The latest recall comes amid concerns that some previous repairs may not have fully fixed the overheating problem.
Why the Kia Telluride Recall is Impacting So Many SUV Owners?
The main concern behind the Kia Telluride Recall is that there might be a problem with the front power seat motor. Safety regulators say the motor can keep running if the seat slide knob or switch it is attached to is broken, moved or out of alignment. If left on all the time, the motor could overheat and cause a fire when the vehicle is parked or being driven. Kia is aware of incidents of overheating components, including seven reported seat fires and 11 melted seat motors, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said. There are no reports of crashes or injuries associated with the defect.
What should Kia Telluride owners do now for safety?
Affected SUV owners are urged to take immediate precautions until dealers can carry out the updated repair. The warning affects specific Telluride vehicles from production years 2019 through 2024.The NHTSA emphasised the risk can occur whether the SUV is in motion or parked, making the temporary parking instructions important for owners awaiting service.
- Keep your vehicle outdoors and away from homes, garages, and other buildings.
- Until repairs are made, do not park the SUV next to other vehicles.
- Check the vehicle identification number through Kia or NHTSA for recall information.
- Arrange the free repair when you get the official notification.
Why the previous Telluride recall didn’t fix the issue?
This Kia Telluride recall replaces a previous recall for a similar issue with seat motor fires. Some previous repairs might not have completely eliminated the risk of overheating, officials said. Kia’s updated solution involves adding an electronic fuse assembly that is designed to cut power to the seat motor in the event of a malfunction. Kia dealers will perform the repair at no cost to you. Letters notifying owners are expected to start arriving Aug. 13.
Kia Telluride recall repair status?
Kia will notify affected owners with instructions and information on how to schedule dealership appointments. Vehicle identification numbers and recall information will also be in NHTSA’s recall database. An estimated 462,869 Telluride SUVs from the 2020 through 2024 model years are affected by the recall. Although there are a lot of affected vehicles, regulators believe only a small percentage could have the specific defect. The key message for owners is to follow the temporary safety instructions and to carry out the revised repair at the earliest opportunity.
