A Penn Yan native has opened a new Auto Wash Car Wash location in his hometown, expanding the regional business to 114 Lake Street.
Bobby Marchenese, owner of Auto Wash, said the Penn Yan location is both a business expansion and a personal investment in the community where he grew up.
"Growing up in Penn Yan leaves its mark in your heart," Marchenese said in the announcement. "I have always enjoyed being part of this community on a personal level but have aspired to build a car wash here and be part of the business community as well."
The new site follows the company's express car wash model, with hand prep, visual inspection by attendants and free vacuums available at no extra charge. Customers can also sign up for the Auto Wash Club, which offers unlimited washes month to month.
Auto Wash was founded in 1981 by Marchenese's father, Bob Marchenese. Bobby Marchenese took ownership of the original Route 332 location in Canandaigua in 2008 and has since grown the brand to nine locations. He currently operates four locations, including two in Canandaigua, one in Geneseo and the new Penn Yan site.
The company said it became carbon neutral in 2021 and supports the Finger Lakes Land Trust, Canandaigua Lake Watershed Association and Seneca Lake Pure Waters. It also said it has donated more than 15,000 free washes through events for teachers, veterans and emergency workers.
The Penn Yan opening was marked by a June 2 ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted with the Yates County Chamber of Commerce. Introductory offers include a free first wash and a first month of unlimited washes for one cent for customers who join the Wash Club, according to the announcement.
