Marion man charged after disturbance at public library

A Marion man was arrested after deputies investigating a disturbance at the Marion Public Library said he became combative and interfered with officers attempting to de-escalate the situation.

Luca M. Gruttadaurio, 23, of Marion was charged with second-degree obstruction of governmental administration following the incident, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the library and met with Gruttadaurio after receiving reports that he had allegedly made homicidal threats toward family members and threats toward himself while speaking with relatives by phone. Authorities said that while officers were attempting to address the situation, Gruttadaurio indicated he would not go willingly with law enforcement and threatened to fight officers.

The Sheriff’s Office said deputies attempted to de-escalate the encounter, but Gruttadaurio remained non-compliant and became combative. He was taken into custody and transported to the Wayne County Jail for processing.

After being issued an appearance ticket for Marion Town Court, Gruttadaurio was transported to Newark-Wayne Community Hospital for further evaluation. A court date has not yet been announced.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
