Hornell hospital flagged at risk but leaders insist services will not be cut

A rural New York hospital just landed on an “at risk” list, but patients won’t see cuts, according to the Hornell Evening Tribune. Leaders at St. James Hospital say care will continue unchanged despite looming federal funding threats.

CEO Wendy Disbrow said the facility has no plans to reduce services, even as a Public Citizen report flagged hospitals heavily reliant on Medicaid and CHIP. The warning ties to expected federal cuts under One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

Disbrow pointed to the hospital’s partnership with UR Medicine as a key stabilizer. While financial pressure looms, officials say that support keeps care accessible across the Hornell region—for now.
