The Canandaigua Fire Department marked a night of recognition and reflection this week, swearing in two experienced firefighters, honoring a standout member, and rededicating a memorial tied to the legacy of 9/11.
Firefighters Hardt and Ellison, both hired last year after serving with the Fishers Fire District, were formally sworn in during the ceremony, with family members pinning their badges.
Department officials said both bring years of experience and leadership to the role, strengthening the department’s capabilities as it continues to serve the community.
The department also named Firefighter Kevin Frederes as its Firefighter of the Year, recognizing his performance, leadership and commitment to exceeding expectations on the job.

In addition to the personnel recognitions, the department rededicated the Chief Andy Stromfeld 9/11 Memorial, which has been relocated to Canandaigua following the closure of the Fishers Fire District.
Officials said the memorial honors not only those lost in the Sept. 11 attacks, but also individuals affected by related illnesses, and reflects a continued commitment to preserving that history.
