Residents will have an opportunity to safely dispose of unused and expired medications during a drug take-back event later this month in Geneva.
Ontario Cares and local partners will host a DEA National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day event on Saturday, April 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Geneva Wegmans on Hamilton Street.
The event allows community members to turn in unwanted medications for proper disposal, helping prevent misuse and environmental contamination. Organizers say items accepted include outdated or unused prescription drugs, liquid medications, and sharps placed in puncture-proof containers.
The initiative is part of a nationwide effort coordinated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration to reduce access to unused medications that could be diverted or abused.
Local law enforcement and public health agencies are partnering on the event, encouraging residents to clean out medicine cabinets and safely discard items that are no longer needed.
Organizers say the goal is to promote safer homes and communities by reducing the risk of accidental poisoning, misuse, and improper disposal.
