Cornell baseball powers past Binghamton behind four homers

The Cornell Big Red baseball team beat the Binghamton Bearcats baseball team, 10-6, on Tuesday evening at Bearcats Baseball Stadium, snapping Binghamton’s 11-game winning streak behind an early offensive surge and dominant relief pitching. Cornell improved to 8-23, while the America East-leading Bearcats fell to 21-14.

Cornell set the tone immediately, jumping out to a 6-0 lead and never trailing. Mason Barela opened the scoring with a solo home run in the first inning, and the Big Red added another run later in the frame. The offense broke things open in the third, highlighted by Tyler Beaulieu’s three-run homer as part of a four-run inning. Ryan Dillon followed with an RBI single to extend the advantage.

After Binghamton cut into the lead with a three-run third, Cornell responded again in the fourth. Trent Lopez delivered the biggest swing of the night, launching a three-run home run to push the lead to 9-3. The Bearcats answered with three runs of their own to make it a tight game, but that was as close as they would get.

The Big Red bullpen took control from there. A group of relievers combined for five scoreless innings, allowing just one hit while striking out seven and retiring 10 consecutive batters to close the game. Tavian Ramos earned his first collegiate win with a scoreless inning, while Ross Yoshida helped finish off the effort.

TJ Swidorski added insurance with a solo home run in the ninth, finishing with two hits, while Beaulieu and Lopez each drove in three runs.

Box Score

Cornell will return to action on Saturday, April 25 at 11:30 a.m. when it opens a three-game series against Brown in Providence, Rhode Island.
