A hands-on sailing course aimed at both beginners and experienced boaters is set to launch in Watkins Glen next month.
America’s Boating Club–Finger Lakes Chapter is offering a six-week class at the Watkins Glen Yacht Club, with instruction covering everything from basic boat design to advanced handling techniques.
Organizers say the course is open to anyone, regardless of experience level, with instructors guiding participants through topics such as rigging, safety, sail operation, navigation rules, and managing more challenging sailing conditions. The program also includes on-the-water training sessions at the Watkins Glen Village Marina.
Classes are scheduled for Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., beginning May 6, with additional sessions planned into early July. On-the-water instruction is tentatively set for select Fridays starting May 29.
Registration for the course closes May 1. The cost ranges from $125 for America’s Boating Club members to $200 for non-members, with a digital textbook included. Discounts are available for family members sharing materials.
Organizers say the course is designed not only to build skills, but also to connect local boating enthusiasts ahead of the summer season.
