A new state initiative aims to improve living conditions and lower energy costs for residents in affordable multifamily housing across upstate New York.
More than $125 million has been made available through a program designed to support energy efficiency and electrification upgrades in residential buildings.
The program offers funding for improvements ranging from insulation and appliances to major system upgrades like heating and windows. It also includes support for climate resilience projects, such as protections against flooding and extreme heat.
Eligible buildings must have at least five units, with a portion of residents meeting income thresholds.
State officials say the initiative is intended to reduce utility costs, improve comfort and make housing more sustainable while addressing affordability challenges.
The program also provides technical support to help property owners navigate the upgrade process from planning through construction.
