Failure to yield cited in two-car crash with injuries in Waterloo

A Waterloo man was cited after a two-car crash at a busy intersection left two people hospitalized Sunday morning.

The crash happened around 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of State Route 96 and Brewer Road, according to Seneca County Sheriff Tim Thompson. Deputies responded to reports of a collision involving injuries and determined one driver failed to yield while entering the roadway.

Investigators said Jaimie Capitulik, of Newark, was traveling east on Route 96 when a vehicle operated by Alex Crelley, of Waterloo, pulled out in front of her, causing the crash.

Capitulik and her passenger, Shawn Ross, were treated at the scene before being transported to Geneva General Hospital for further evaluation. Crelley and his passenger, Angelina Sgarlata, also of Waterloo, were evaluated at the scene by North Seneca Ambulance and did not require additional treatment.

Crelley was issued a uniform traffic ticket for failure to yield the right of way.
