Cornell women’s lacrosse races past Binghamton

Cornell women’s lacrosse scored six straight goals to open the game and rolled to a 13-7 victory over Binghamton on Tuesday afternoon.

The Big Red improved to 3-2 on the season after taking early control with a fast offensive start. Emily Iacobellis opened the scoring less than three minutes into the game, sparking a six-goal run that gave Cornell a commanding first-quarter lead. Dillyn Patten added a free-position goal, while Holly Newman and Ellie Bergin also found the net during the surge. Bergin scored twice in the opening quarter and Iacobellis added her second goal before Binghamton broke through late in the period.

Cornell continued its momentum in the second quarter to build a 9-3 halftime advantage. Lily Whaling opened the quarter with a goal off an assist from Ella Wilmot, who later scored herself and assisted on another goal by Cameron Traveis.

Bergin led the offense in the second half, scoring twice early in the third quarter to extend Cornell’s lead to 11-3. Binghamton responded with three straight goals late in the quarter but could not get closer.

Bergin finished with four goals to lead all scorers. Patten and Iacobellis each added two goals, while Newman, Michaud, Traveis, Whaling and Wilmot also scored. Wilmot recorded three assists as Cornell totaled six assists on 13 goals.

Cornell controlled the draw circle 13-9, with Caitlin Tully and Bergin each collecting three draw controls.
