Search warrant leads to Auburn drug arrest

A search warrant in Auburn led to the arrest of a 51-year-old man on felony drug charges, according to the Finger Lakes Drug Task Force.

Investigators arrested Richard R. Hartfield of Auburn after executing a court-authorized search warrant Tuesday evening at a residence in the city.

Task force members said they had been investigating the illegal possession, sale and distribution of narcotics in Cayuga County and identified the residence as a location Hartfield was using to further drug sales.

During the search, investigators seized a quantity of cocaine, digital scales, drug packaging materials and U.S. currency.

Hartfield was charged with one count of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a Class B felony.

He was transported to the Cayuga County Jail for centralized arraignment proceedings. The Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office requested that Hartfield be remanded, citing four prior felony convictions.

The investigation involved members of the New York State Police, Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office and Auburn Police Department. The Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office will prosecute the case.
