DOT plans Route 14 paving meeting

Drivers along Route 14 in Chemung County could see fresh pavement and traffic upgrades starting this fall. State transportation officials plan to share the details at a public open house later this month.

The New York State Department of Transportation will host an in-person meeting on Thursday, February 26, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Horseheads Village Hall, 202 South Main Street in Horseheads.

The proposed project would resurface Route 14, also known as The Miracle Mile, from just north of West Broad Street in the Village of Horseheads to just north of the City of Elmira line. The work would stretch through the Town and Village of Horseheads, the Village of Elmira Heights, and the Town of Elmira.

DOT officials say the project could begin in fall 2026.

Plans also call for traffic signal upgrades, new signage, and two new left-turn lanes. Crews would install curb ramp enhancements and make frame and grate adjustments.

Engineers will give a brief presentation at the meeting and then take questions from the public.

The Department of Transportation says its mission focuses on providing a safe, reliable, equitable, and resilient transportation system that connects communities and supports New York’s economy.
