Dansville woman admits draining elderly neighbor’s savings

A yearslong scheme wiped out nearly an elderly woman’s entire savings, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of New York. Prosecutors say two people siphoned more than $250,000 from a 90-year-old victim in Livingston County.

Nahtahna Castner, 46, of Dansville, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. Authorities say she and a co-conspirator used the victim’s banking details to pull cash from ATMs, wire money to Castner’s account, and open credit cards in the victim’s name.

Investigators say the victim’s account dropped from about $283,955 to less than $100. Castner now faces up to 22 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. A judge will sentence her June 9.
