Canandaigua’s aging sewer plant could stall new development and trigger state fines, according to the Finger Lakes Times.
City officials say the 54-year-old Canandaigua Wastewater Treatment Plant struggles to meet current discharge limits and faces tougher state rules ahead. The Environmental Committee voted to hire Larsen Design Group for $145,000 to study upgrades. Leaders warned capacity issues could delay projects like Uptown Landing and Factory 243 if new sewer hookups pause.
Officials also discussed truck brake noise on North Main Street and agreed to consider ticketed-only events downtown. The full council will review the sewer study contract and other recommendations at its next meeting.
