Cornell women’s hockey was unable to capitalize on sustained offensive pressure in a loss to Harvard on Saturday afternoon at Lynah Rink. The Big Red fell to 14-10-2 on the season, while the Crimson improved to 12-12-2.

Junior Karel Prefontaine scored the lone goal for Cornell, tying the game late in the first period on the team’s second power-play opportunity. Alyssa Regalado and Nora Curtis assisted on the goal. Annelies Bergmann made 22 saves in net for the Big Red.
Harvard opened the scoring earlier in the first period with a power-play goal by Zoe Boosamra. Prefontaine answered later in the frame to send the teams into the first intermission even. Boosamra struck again at the 14:58 mark of the second period to give the Crimson the lead. Cornell successfully challenged a subsequent Harvard goal for a high stick, keeping the deficit at one heading into the third period.
Cornell controlled play in the final period, generating 22 shots and pulling Bergmann for an extra attacker. The Big Red produced 12 shots in a three-minute stretch but were turned aside repeatedly by Harvard goaltender Ainsley Tuffy, who finished with 49 saves. Ley Keira added an empty-net goal with 12 seconds remaining to close out the game.
Cornell outshot Harvard 49-25 but was held to a single goal.
Cornell women’s hockey returns to Lynah Rink next weekend for senior weekend, hosting RPI on Friday, February 6, at 5:00 p.m., and Union on Saturday, February 7, at 3:00 p.m.
