After weeks of outrage and deadly encounters, President Donald Trump signaled a pullback in Minnesota’s immigration crackdown, according to the Associated Press. Trump said talks with state and city leaders showed progress as federal agents prepared to scale back operations.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said Trump agreed the surge can’t continue, with some agents expected to leave and Border Patrol commander Greg Bovino reportedly among them. Bovino had overseen aggressive enforcement tied to nationwide protests.
Trump also put border czar Tom Homan in charge locally as courts weigh lawsuits challenging the operation’s legality.
