Every Gananda third grader went home with a personalized book instead of a dictionary this year, according to The Times of Wayne County. The Gananda Rotary Club marked Literacy Month by gifting students the school’s Book of the Year, PUNKY ALOHA.
Rotary members delivered the books January 22, adding a second title about community service and activity materials. The shift reflects how students learn today, with Rotary choosing engaging stories over traditional dictionaries.
The featured book, written by Shar Tuiasoa, centers on friendship and bravery. Teachers and library staff also received copies, reinforcing the school’s push to build a lifelong love of reading.
