Auburn’s Tim Locastro retires from MLB and lands Padres coaching role

After 13 pro seasons, Auburn native Tim Locastro is trading spikes for a clipboard, according to The Citizen. He’s retiring from playing and stepping into a coaching role with the San Diego Padres.

Locastro will serve as a roving baserunning and outfield coordinator, working mainly with minor leaguers. He played for the Padres’ Triple-A affiliate last season and stayed with the organization after weighing limited playing options.

The Auburn High School and Ithaca College alum logged parts of seven MLB seasons, including stops with the Dodgers, Diamondbacks, Yankees, and Mets. He says the move lets him stay in baseball while spending more time with family.
