Mets acquire utilityman Vidal Bruján from Twins for cash considerations

The New York Mets added infield depth Thursday night, acquiring utility player Vidal Bruján from the Minnesota Twinsin exchange for cash considerations.

Bruján joins the Mets shortly after the club traded Luisangel Acuña as part of the deal for Luis Robert Jr.. The 27-year-old has five seasons of major league experience and is valued primarily for his defensive versatility. Bruján has made starts at second base, shortstop and third base, while also appearing at all three outfield positions. Most of his time has come at second base, though he has logged more than 60 career games in the outfield.

During the 2025 season, Bruján appeared in roughly 60 games split between the Chicago Cubs, Baltimore Orioles, and Atlanta Braves. He posted a slash line around .244/.298/.302, finishing with an OPS near .600. He was claimed off waivers by Minnesota earlier this month before being designated for assignment, opening the door for the Mets to complete the trade.

Bruján previously appeared in 102 games with the Miami Marlins during the 2024 season.

To clear space on the 40-man roster, the Mets designated left-hander Richard Lovelady for assignment. Because Bruján was recently claimed off waivers, he must clear waivers again if the Mets attempt to send him to the minors.
