Animal shelters across Seneca and Ontario counties are getting a winter boost through a community donation effort.
Assemblyman Jeff Gallahan announced his annual pet and animal supply drive is underway and runs through Friday, Jan. 30. The drive supports Beverly Animal Shelter in Seneca County and Happy Tails Animal Shelter in Ontario County.
Gallahan is asking residents to donate new pet supplies, including dog and cat food, treats, toys, litter, and cleaning items. Donations can be dropped off at several locations, including his Geneva office, local town halls, libraries, and village halls throughout the district.
Gallahan said the drive was organized before the recent announcement regarding the planned closure of Beverly Animal Shelter. He noted the shelter continues to care for animals and accept donations during its transition period.
He encouraged residents to participate, saying past community support has made a significant difference for local shelters and the animals they serve.
