Bowdoin scored twice in each period to defeat William Smith 6-2 in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday afternoon at the Mullins Center Community Rink on the campus of UMass-Amherst. The loss dropped the Herons to 7-4-0 on the season.

Sophomores Bella Hacker and Ainsley Lonczak provided the offense for William Smith. Goaltender Mia Iwicki faced heavy pressure throughout the contest and finished with 45 saves.
Bowdoin (9-2-0) controlled play from the outset, holding a 51-17 advantage in shots on goal, including a 23-3 edge in the opening period. Anyi Sun led the Polar Bears with two goals, while Sarah Peterson earned the win in net with 15 saves. Both teams finished 0-for-3 on the power play.
Bowdoin opened the scoring at 6:03 of the first period before William Smith answered three minutes later when Hacker fired a point shot through traffic to tie the game. The Polar Bears quickly regained the lead less than 30 seconds later and took a 2-1 advantage into the intermission.
Sun extended Bowdoin’s lead midway through the second period, and Ava Provenzo added a goal in the final seconds of the frame to make it 4-1. Bowdoin added two more goals in the third, while Lonczak scored late for the Herons after slipping past the defense and finishing on a break to close the scoring for William Smith.
William Smith returns to action on Friday, January 9, when it hosts Nazareth at The Cooler. Faceoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
