A $20 billion telecom deal just got the green light in New York, according to WENY. State regulators approved Verizon’s acquisition of Frontier Communications, clearing the way for a major shakeup in phone and internet service.
The Public Service Commission said the move should bring more reliable service, especially in underserved and rural areas. Frontier has faced years of customer complaints, including maintenance and service issues in the Northern Tier of Pennsylvania.
Verizon pledged to invest $150 million in New York to expand its fiber broadband network. Officials also say customers could benefit from bundled wireless and internet services and improved network performance.
