Auburn could keep state support for its Equal Rights Heritage Center after Senate Democrats restored $200,000 in their budget plan, according to The Citizen.
The funding, first secured in 2024 by state Sen. Rachel May, helps the city cover operating costs for the New York State Equal Rights Heritage Center. Gov. Kathy Hochul left the aid out of her proposed 2026-27 budget earlier this year.
The center, built by the state for $10 million and opened in 2018, costs more than $200,000 annually to operate. Lawmakers will negotiate the final state budget before the April 1 deadline.
