City planners cautiously advanced revised workforce housing plans on Ithaca’s West End while flagging major design hurdles, according to The Ithaca Voice.
The Planning and Development Board agreed that environmental concerns for Visum Development’s downsized “Citizen” project remain mitigated, clearing a procedural step. But members raised sharp concerns about aesthetics, accessibility, and street presence, warning full site plan approval remains far off as financing pressures mount.
The board also reviewed changes to Visum’s long-stalled “Hive” project after new FEMA flood maps forced redesigns, while approving a South Meadow Street subdivision with added bike access conditions. A proposed sign package for a downtown apartment complex again failed to win approval.
