An off-duty New York State Police investigator is facing a DWI charge after a hit-and-run crash in Cortlandt on Thursday night.
Troopers responded to Hudson Valley Hospital around 8:07 p.m. on December 4 after getting a report that a vehicle had fled the scene of a collision near East Main Street.
Car hit from behind, suspect vehicle found in hospital lot
Investigators say a 2017 Chevrolet sedan struck the back of a car that was stopped at a red light. The driver then left the scene and was spotted pulling into the hospital parking lot a short time later.
Responding troopers found the vehicle and identified the driver as Investigator Richard A. Miller, 51, of Putnam Valley. He is currently assigned to Troop NYC.
Troopers observed signs of intoxication and took Miller into custody. He was processed at the State Police barracks in Cortlandt and charged with driving while intoxicated.
No injuries, court date set
No one was hurt in the crash. Miller was issued an appearance ticket and released to a third party. He’s due in Cortlandt Town Court on January 5 at 9 a.m.
The investigation is ongoing.
