The Buffalo Bills have added veteran safety Darnell Savage to their roster, addressing a hole in the secondary following Ja’Marcus Ingram’s waiver departure and Darius Slay’s failure to report.
Savage was claimed off waivers after being released by the Washington Commanders. The 28-year-old has also spent time this season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, appearing in 10 games combined and recording 16 tackles, two passes defended, and one forced fumble.
A 2019 first-round pick by the Green Bay Packers, Savage has seven seasons of NFL experience, totaling 369 tackles, 40 passes defended, 10 interceptions, and three forced fumbles across 72 games, 69 of them starts. His standout season came in 2020, when he tallied 75 tackles, 12 passes defended, and four interceptions.
Savage becomes the third designated safety on the Bills’ roster, joining Jordan Poyer and Cole Bishop, while versatile defensive backs Jordan Hancock, Cam Lewis, and Sam Franklin Jr. provide additional depth at the position.
