Trump threatens NY SNAP funds over immigration data

The Trump administration says it will cut off administrative funding for SNAP in New York and 20 other states unless they share recipients’ immigration status, according to News10NBC.

The USDA clarified that SNAP benefits themselves won’t be affected — only the money states use to manage the program, like staff and training. New York, where over 135,000 people in the Rochester area rely on SNAP, is fighting the move in court.

Federal officials say the data is needed to prevent fraud. New York argues it already vets applicants and won’t hand over sensitive personal information.
