State Police investigating fatal crash and related death in Waddington

A fatal crash in St. Lawrence County has led to a broader investigation after a second person was found dead at the driver’s home, according to New York State Police.

Troopers responded to a single-car crash on State Route 37 in the town of Waddington around 7:45 a.m. on November 30. A silver Buick Enclave had gone off the road, hit a fence, and came to a stop along the southern shoulder.

The driver — who was the only person in the vehicle — was found unresponsive and later died at Canton–Potsdam Hospital. Due to the nature of the injuries, State Police brought in their Collision Reconstruction Unit to examine the crash site.

But when troopers went to the driver’s residence to notify next of kin, they discovered a second tragedy — a deceased man inside the home. That scene is now being investigated by the State Police Forensic Investigation Unit.

Investigators say the driver may have sustained injuries prior to the crash, in addition to injuries caused by the collision itself. An autopsy for both individuals is scheduled for Monday, December 1, at Glens Falls Hospital.

Authorities believe this is an isolated incident and say there is no threat to the public. The investigation remains ongoing.

The St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, Lisbon Fire and Rescue, and Waddington Fire and Rescue all assisted at the crash scene.
