Brothers with criminal records face new federal drug and gun charges

A known gang member and his younger brother are facing serious new charges after a federal investigation tied both to drugs and illegal weapons.

Kevin Miller, 35, of Buffalo, and Kaylen Miller, 28, of Lackawanna, were arrested this week on separate complaints, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of New York.

Kevin Miller, described by federal authorities as a member of the Alma Avenue Gang, is charged with selling meth to an undercover officer. Prosecutors say the sales were part of a long-running investigation into his alleged drug trafficking.

He has a prior federal narcotics conviction and now faces a minimum of five years and up to 40 years in prison, along with a $5 million fine.

His brother, Kaylen Miller, was charged after law enforcement executed a search warrant and found a loaded, stolen handgun, suspected cocaine, drug paraphernalia, and more than $2,000 in cash. As a convicted felon, he was barred from having a firearm.

“Kevin and Kaylen Miller have a documented history of criminal behavior,” U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo said in a statement. “Let these newest charges serve as a reminder that my Office… will continue our efforts to keep defendants like the Miller brothers from filling our community with drugs, guns, and violence.”

Both men appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael J. Roemer on Tuesday. Kevin was ordered detained. Kaylen was released with conditions.

The FBI’s Safe Streets Task Force led the investigation, working with the Buffalo and Lackawanna police departments.
