Dozens of local educators got a well-deserved break this past weekend, thanks to students at Northeast College of Health Sciences. As part of the College’s Compassion in Action outreach program, senior massage therapy students provided complimentary, full-hour table massages to teachers from the Seneca Falls, Geneva, and Waterloo school districts.
The Massage Therapy Clinic Day was held at the College’s Seneca Falls campus on Saturday, November 23. It was designed to give back to area educators while also giving students hands-on experience in a clinical setting.
“We are proud to offer opportunities that support the wellbeing of our local educators while enriching the hands-on learning of our massage therapy students,” said Nicole Miller, director of the college’s Massage Therapy Program.
College President Dr. Michael Mestan called the event an example of Northeast’s community-first philosophy. “Events like this highlight the value of massage therapy while strengthening our ties to the region and our community members,” he said. Mestan also noted that the Massage Therapy Program has already been ranked number one in the Northeast and sixth nationally, despite being in its first year.

Students benefit from the clinic by applying classroom training in a real-world setting, practicing a wide range of techniques, and developing their client communication skills. Clinical Coordinator Connie Hodde, a Seneca Falls resident, said the clinic was particularly meaningful for her, noting, “Many of my clients are teachers. I understand the stress they face, and this is a meaningful way to give back.”
Teachers who participated shared overwhelmingly positive feedback, praising the professionalism of the students and the quality of the massages. One described the experience as “wonderful and so very appreciated.” Others said the event helped them manage stress and hoped for more clinics in the future.
While the College receives numerous requests for outreach events, participation is based on student availability and community need. The program prioritizes opportunities that maximize student growth while supporting those who may not otherwise have access to therapeutic services.
