A man was arrested following a reported domestic disturbance involving a child in Wayne County, state police said.
Joseph D. Cottrell Jr., 38, of Red Creek, was taken into custody after an investigation into the incident at a residence in Wolcott.
Police said troopers responded around 5:28 p.m. March 24 to a home on Main Street for a report that a man had struck a child.
Investigators said Cottrell was involved in a physical altercation with a juvenile family member and allegedly applied pressure to the child’s neck, obstructing breathing and causing visible injuries. Authorities said multiple children witnessed the incident.
Cottrell was arrested at the scene and charged with criminal obstruction of breathing, five counts of endangering the welfare of a child and two counts of harassment.
He was taken to the Wayne County Jail for arraignment.
