Steuben County has passed a $276.7 million budget for 2026—up nearly $17 million from last year—due to rising program costs and state mandates.
Despite a 1.96% increase in the property tax levy, the average full-value tax rate will drop 6%, marking the 13th consecutive year of rate reductions for residents. Officials say the budget maintains essential services while reflecting financial stability.
The new budget takes effect January 1.
