State troopers say a Florida man is accused of fatally shooting his two brothers during a dispute at a remote hunting cabin in Allegany County.
New York State Police investigators in Amity report that 65-year-old Scot Thompson, of Englewood, Florida, was arrested Monday and charged with two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of first-degree criminal use of a firearm.
Troopers were called to a disturbance on Botsford Hollow Road in the town of Allen late Sunday night. When they arrived, they found 70-year-old Mark Thompson of Canterbury, Connecticut, and 69-year-old David Thompson of Port Charlotte, Florida, dead inside the property.
According to state police, the three brothers had been sharing the cabin when a fight turned violent. During that confrontation, Scot Thompson allegedly fired a rifle, killing both men. He then left in one of the victim’s vehicles, triggering a regionwide alert to law enforcement.
Authorities also warned that Thompson might be traveling toward Gorham to confront another person, though police have not released further details about that portion of the alert.
The vehicle was later located in Livingston County, where deputies and Geneseo police took Thompson into custody without resistance. He was turned over to state police for processing and will be held in Allegany County pending arraignment.
Autopsies are being conducted at Strong Memorial Hospital. State police say the investigation is ongoing with assistance from several local and county agencies.
