After nearly a decade away, one of the Finger Lakes’ most celebrated musical traditions is officially coming back.
Organizers have confirmed the Gorham Pageant of Bands will return in 2026, marking the 58th edition of the beloved event. Set for May 29–30, the two-day celebration will once again spotlight student musicians from across New York State.
The pageant kicks off Friday, May 29 with a jazz festival at Marcus Whitman High School’s newly renovated auditorium. Student jazz ensembles will perform for the public and receive feedback from judges — with a professional headlining group to be announced soon.
On Saturday, May 30, the Parade of Bands will bring music and competition back to Gorham’s Main Street. Marching bands from across the region will perform, while visitors enjoy vendors and community activities outside Gorham Elementary.
A proud tradition, revived
“We’re committed to honoring the proud legacy of this pageant,” said Lisa Grefrath, president of the Marcus Whitman Band & Guard Boosters. “It’s a meaningful opportunity not just for our students, but for performers from across the state.”
Pageant Chairperson Austin Kephart added, “The student musicians are the backbone of this event. With their help, we’re ready to bring this tradition back to life.”
The pageant, which began in 1960 and last ran in 2018, was recently honored with a community mural — sparking fresh momentum for its return.
Organizers are currently seeking volunteers, vendors, sponsors, and partners. Updates will be shared on the Marcus Whitman Marching Wildcats’ Facebook page.
