The No. 20 Cornell men’s soccer team came up short in the Ivy League Championship on Sunday, falling 2-0 to Princeton at Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium. With the loss, the Big Red moved to 13-3-2, while the Tigers improved to 15-1-2 and secured their second straight conference title.

Princeton struck early, capitalizing on a free-kick chance that set up Sam Vigilante for the opening goal. Cornell nearly answered before halftime when it earned a penalty kick, but Princeton goalkeeper Andrew Samuels made the stop, his third penalty save of the season, to preserve the Tigers’ lead.
Cornell pushed for an equalizer throughout the second half, generating promising looks from Blake Donahue and Aidan Martin. Despite maintaining pressure and creating several quality chances, the Big Red could not break through. Princeton sealed the match in the 88th minute when Liam Beckwith converted to double the lead and secure the championship. The Tigers also became the first tournament host to win the title.
Goalkeeper Ryan Friedberg finished with three saves to keep Cornell within reach for much of the match, while Samuels recorded three saves of his own in the shutout.
Cornell now turns its attention to the NCAA Tournament. The Big Red will learn its placement during the 2025 College Cup selection show on Monday, November 17 at noon.
