ORANGE GAME DAY: Syracuse basketball heads to Philadelphia to face Drexel (preview)

Syracuse basketball hits the road for the first time this season as the Orange face Drexel in the Autumn Invitational today at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia. Tipoff is set for 3:30 p.m. as the second game of a doubleheader, following the matchup between La Salle and Penn State.

Syracuse enters the contest 2-0 after convincing wins over Binghamton and Delaware State, while the Dragons are 1-2, coming off consecutive losses to Saint Joseph’s and Colgate.

The Orange have showcased a deep, versatile roster early in the season. Sophomore forward Donnie Freeman has paced the offense with 20 points in each game, while senior center William Kyle III has anchored the defense with a team-high seven blocks and 13 rebounds in his most recent outing. Freshman Kiyan Anthony has also made a strong impact, scoring 19 points in his first career start, and Naithan George, Nate Kingz, and Sadiq White Jr. have all contributed to a well-rounded attack. Syracuse has combined stout defense with efficient scoring, holding opponents to just 90 points across two games, marking its best defensive start in over a decade.

Drexel, led by 10th-year coach Zach Spiker, relies on junior guard Shane Blakeney, who is averaging 14.3 points and leads the team in steals. The Dragons have retained four other starters from last season, including William Garcia Adsten and Kevon Vanderhorst.

Syracuse leads the all-time series 4-1 and captured the last meeting 75-60 in 2021.
