A single vote now separates the top two candidates for a Waterloo Town Council seat, prompting a mandatory manual recount, according to the Finger Lakes Times. Republican Steve Mueller edged ahead of Democrat Bob Dinan 668 to 667 after absentee and affidavit ballots were tallied. Dinan had led by one vote on Election Day.
State law requires a manual recount when the margin is 20 votes or fewer or less than 5%. Two other Seneca County races also qualified: a Seneca Falls supervisor contest and a tight Varick Town Council seat, where Erie Riegel leads Rachel Bateman 153 to 141.
Recount results could reshape several town boards by next week.
