Seneca County Jail is getting a major security upgrade, thanks to a new state grant secured by Assemblyman Jeff Gallahan.
Gallahan, who represents the 131st Assembly District, announced $80,000 in funding to help the jail purchase a high-tech body scanner. The device is designed to detect contraband and reduce risks for correctional officers, inmates, and visitors.
During a recent visit, Gallahan toured the facility with Jail Lt. Joshua Kierst and met with Sheriff Tim Thompson. Both officials praised the investment and called the scanner a top priority for improving safety inside the jail.
Sheriff Thompson thanked Gallahan and Board of Supervisors Chairman Michael Enslow for helping advance the project. He said the new technology will make a meaningful difference in preventing dangerous items from entering the facility.
Gallahan said the funding reflects his ongoing commitment to public safety and to giving local corrections staff the tools they need to protect communities.
