Law enforcement professionals from across New York gathered in Ontario County this week for a specialized training seminar focused on supporting officers through crisis and critical incidents.
The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office hosted the Law Enforcement Chaplain Training Seminar on October 29, with support from the New York State Sheriff’s Association. The event brought together 25 chaplains and law enforcement personnel from 13 counties.
Participants received training on peer chaplaincy, delivering death notifications, and building resilience among law enforcement officers — topics central to the unique role chaplains play in crisis response and officer wellness.
The seminar was led by Jim Bontrager, chaplain of the Elkhart, Indiana Police Department and a past president of the International Conference of Police Chaplains.
Sheriff’s offices in attendance included Ontario, Seneca, Wayne, Schuyler, Chautauqua, Greene, Ulster, Delaware, Rensselaer, Orleans, Montgomery, Monroe, and Allegany counties.
A special thanks was given to Chautauqua County Sheriff James Quattrone, who helped organize the event.
