FL Land Trust to host public sessions on Hemlock to High Tor conservation effort

The Finger Lakes Land Trust is inviting the public to learn more about a major conservation initiative aimed at protecting one of the most ecologically significant landscapes in the western Finger Lakes.

As part of its Hemlock to High Tor Initiative, the Land Trust will host a series of free public information sessions in November to discuss its plan to preserve over 114,000 acres of forest, wildlife habitat, and water resources stretching from Hemlock Lake to the High Tor Wildlife Management Area near Canandaigua Lake.

The sessions will be led by project director Lindsay McMillan and FLLT staff, who will explain how the initiative aims to address increasing development pressure and ensure the long-term health of this vital natural corridor.

Upcoming public info sessions:

  • Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 6:00 PM – Naples Village Hall, 106 S. Main St., Naples
  • Wednesday, Nov. 12 at 7:30 PM – Pittsford Community Center, 35 Lincoln Ave., Pittsford
  • Thursday, Nov. 20 at 6:00 PM – Honeoye Public Library, 8708 Main St., Honeoye

Light refreshments will be served, and attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage directly with FLLT staff.

The Finger Lakes Land Trust has already protected over 34,000 acres in the region. The Hemlock to High Tor effort builds on that work, focusing on areas critical to clean water, biodiversity, and climate resilience.

“By working with local landowners and communities, we can ensure that the landscapes we love — forested ridges, clean lakes, rich farmland — remain intact for future generations,” said the Land Trust in its release.
