Ontario County will release its draft solid waste plan on Oct. 24, giving the public two weeks to weigh in, according to the Finger Lakes Times.
The 213-page plan, prepared by Barton & Loguidice, outlines waste handling through 2035, with a focus on reducing organic waste—which makes up up to 35% of the county’s 100,000 annual tons. Officials say organics will become a top priority starting in 2026.
The plan includes a timeline for action and may be revised based on public input. The county landfill is set to close by the end of 2028.
