Mobile mammogram unit returns to Benton for free screenings

The 7th annual Sister’s Day event is bringing life-saving breast cancer screenings back to Yates County, with a full day of mobile mammograms on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Benton Fire Department, 932 Route 14A in Penn Yan.

Rochester Regional Health’s Mobile Mammography Unit will be on site to provide convenient, local access to breast cancer screening — especially for women who may not have health insurance or easy access to care.

The event is part of a wider effort to reach women across the Finger Lakes region with preventive health services. Mammograms are free for eligible women without insurance and do not affect self-pay discounts at other medical offices or tax reporting.

To qualify, participants must:

  • Be 40 years of age or older
  • Live in the Finger Lakes Region
  • Provide the name of a healthcare provider to receive screening results

“This is a great opportunity for women — especially those without insurance — to get screened in a comfortable, local setting,” organizers said.

Women are encouraged to call (585) 224-3070 to schedule an appointment in advance. Both insured and uninsured women are welcome.

The event is made possible through a partnership between Rochester Regional Health, Yates County Public Health, Benton Fire Department, and the Finger Lakes Region Cancer Services Program, which focuses on early detection and community-based care.
