A Cayuga County man has been arrested following a long-term investigation into online child exploitation, according to New York State Police.
Investigators say 23-year-old Douglas L. Baker of Cayuga was charged after a year-long probe led by the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Auburn, working with the Troop E Computer Crimes Unit.
The case began in April 2024 when the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children sent a CyberTipline report to state police about suspected child sexual exploitation material shared on a social media platform. Troopers say the tip led them to Baker, and a search warrant was executed at his home in July 2024. Multiple electronic devices were seized and analyzed.
After reviewing the evidence with the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office, Baker was charged with promoting a sexual performance by a child under 17, a D felony, and possessing a sexual performance by a child, an E felony.
He was processed at the State Police barracks in Auburn on October 13 and arraigned through the county’s Centralized Arraignment Program.
