Thousands of racist and sexist messages just blew up the careers of young Republican activists in four states — including New York — according to Spectrum News NY1.
The leaked texts, nearly 3,000 in total, were filled with anti-Black, antisemitic, and rape-related jokes. Former NY Young Republicans Chair Peter Giunta compared Black people to monkeys and joked about gas chambers. His ex-vice chair, Bobby Walker, mocked sexual assault. Both were fired, along with several others involved.
Democrats quickly condemned the messages, while GOP leaders distanced themselves. Some, like Rep. Michael Lawler, called the behavior vile but said it won’t damage the party. Vice President JD Vance brushed it off as “college group chat” talk and used it to attack Democrats.
