The Cayuga County Industrial Development Agency turned down Auburn’s offer of free office space at City Hall and will instead pay nearly $20,000 annually to lease space in the Carr Building, The Citizen reports.
The decision surprised Auburn Mayor Jimmy Giannettino, who proposed the rent-free option to support a unified economic development hub.
Some officials questioned why the Carr Building—with renovation needs—was chosen over the no-cost alternative. The vote passed 4–2, despite concerns over cost and optics. County leaders say collaboration is still possible, even with separate offices.
