Fleming firefighters spent nearly two hours assisting crews in Port Byron after a reported garage fire involving downed power lines Saturday night.
Fleming Fire Department’s Rescue Pumper 1 was providing standby coverage in Weedsport during the community’s field days when it was dispatched on a mutual aid assignment to Port Byron at approximately 9:06 p.m.
Initial reports indicated live power lines had fallen onto a garage, creating both a fire hazard and safety concerns for responding crews. Upon arrival, Fleming firefighters established a water supply from a nearby hydrant to support firefighting operations.
Firefighters then worked alongside Port Byron crews to extinguish the fire and conduct overhaul operations after NYSEG secured power to the affected lines. No injuries were reported.
All units cleared the scene shortly before 11 p.m. following the completion of firefighting and overhaul efforts.
